Curtis Granderson, former Detroit Tigers centerfielder, retires from baseball

Curtis Granderson is hanging it up.

The longtime outfielder who began his career in the Detroit Tigers organization and was instrumental in the 2006 American League Championship season announced his retirement on social media today.

"It’s been an incredible journey! Thanks for the ride of a lifetime, @MLB," Granderson tweeted, with a longer message to baseball, the organizations he played for, coaches and fans.

Granderson was a 3-time All-Star, including 2009 with the Tigers, a Silver Slugger Award winner in 2011 with the New York Yankees and a Roberto Clemente Award winner with the New York Mets in 2016.
