DETROIT -- The Chicago Cubs scored eight runs on Wednesday night and only one of them came via a solo home run.
That might not sound so impressive, but it broke a streak of five consecutive games in which the Cubs scored exactly one run -- each time on solo home runs.
The Cubs beat the Tigers 8-2 to split the two-game series at Comerica Park played in front of large weeknight crowds made up mainly of blue-clad Cubs fans.
Tigers starter Francisco Liriano pitched four scoreless innings before giving up three in the fifth.
David Bote smashed a slider to left field for a two-run home run.
