Clock ticking on Tigers' patience for Matthew Boyd, other young pitchers

DETROIT -- The topic of the evening was Matthew Boyd, but Detroit Tigers manager Brad Ausmus was directing his message to all the young pitchers on the staff.

"There are some guys here right now that need to show that they can perform consistently at the Major League level," Ausmus said after the Tigers' 13-4 loss to the New York Yankees. "At some point, there's an expiration date on how much rope you're given. I don't want to act like I'm putting pressure on people, but hey, this is the big leagues. You want to pitch in the big leagues, you've got to throw strikes, you've got to get outs and you've got to do it somewhat consistently.
