Christopher Ilitch was talking about it recently with his dad.
“Al has done an outstanding job,” the president of Ilitch Holdings said this morning about first-year Detroit Tigers general manager Al Avila. “Baseball fans across the world think he’s done a great job.”
Ilitch was speaking at the Crain’s Detroit Newsmakers of the Year luncheon, where he and his father, longtime Tigers owner Mike Ilitch, were honored.
Mike Ilitch was not in attendance. But Avila was.
“He’s been able to put together a very good roster,” Christopher Ilitch said. “And I’ll tell you the thing I’ve noticed more than anything: just how motivated our players seem.
