A season of mass underachievement doesn't typically generate a lot of positive assessment. So there aren't a lot of gold stars and smiley faces on these final Tigers grades.

These grades are based on evaluations over the entire season — although statistics used are through Sept. 28. And they are weighted somewhat by the history and expectations of the individual player.
If, for example, Nick Castellanos produced what Miguel Cabrera did this season, he would have earned an A-plus. For Cabrera, though, it was a low B.
