The rules dictating transactions in Major League baseball are so complicated that sometimes even team executives can get tripped up.
That's what happened with the Detroit Tigers, who had planned to select the contract of right-hander Jacob Turner so he could start Sunday against the Minnesota Twins.
As it turns out, because Turner had been designated for assignment less than 10 days ago, he was ineligible to return even though he had successfully cleared waivers and been outrighted to Triple-A Toledo.
That left the Tigers in a pickle, as they had already bid farewell to reliever Zach McAllister.
