Catcher acquired in Justin Verlander deal will play in Arizona

DETROIT -- Catcher Jake Rogers suited up for the Class A (Advanced) Lakeland Flying Tigers only long enough to play two games before the season ended.

The Tigers are sending their new prospect, acquired Aug. 31 in the Justin Verlander trade, to the Arizona Fall League to get a few more at-bats.

The Tigers added Rogers and right-hander Zac Houston to the AFL roster this week.

Six players had already been announced: right-handed pitchers Adam Ravenelle, Zac Reininger and Spencer Turnbull; infielders Kody Eaves and A.J. Simcox; and outfielder Cam Gibson.

The Tigers will play for the Mesa Solar Sox.
