MINNEAPOLIS -- While Harold Castro was taking batting practice on Monday, Detroit manager Ron Gardenhire came up to him and asked, "Hey, so you've never played here?"
"No," replied Castro, who was promoted by the Tigers last Friday from Triple-A Toledo.
"OK, you're starting at shortstop tomorrow," Gardenhire replied.
And just like that, the 24-year-old infielder made his big league debut and batted ninth as the Tigers opened a three-game series with the Tigers at Target Field on Tuesday. Castro was so nervous Monday night that he could hardly sleep.
