Bryan Garcia to have Tommy John surgery

Bryan Garcia’s rise through the Tigers farm system, from sixth-round pick in 2016 to potential closer of the future at the end of last season, has hit a bump. The right-handed relief prospect and former University of Miami closer was diagnosed with a complete tear of the ulnar colateral ligament in his right elbow.

Garcia will undergo Tommy John surgery on Thursday. Dr. James Andrews, who diagnosed the tear on Wednesday, will perform the procedure.
