LAKELAND, Fla. – Brad Ausmus said giving right-handed pitcher Mark Lowe his unconditional release was one of his toughest cuts over four springs as manager of the Detroit Tigers.
Lowe, who is owed $5.5 million by the Tigers, was part of a significant round of reductions from the major league camp Sunday morning.
“A lot of times guys know it’s coming, just based on the roster in front of them, but Mark Lowe was particularly tough for me because I really like the guy,” Ausmus said. “He’s one of the better guys in that clubhouse.
