LAKELAND, Fla. – Detroit Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said closer Francisco Rodriguez assured him he’s fine after suffering a cramp in a World Baseball Classic game for Venezuela on Saturday.
Rodriguez was injured on a relay throw to home plate in a matchup against Italy in Mexico.
On the play, Rodriguez fielded a throw from shortstop Alcides Escobar, threw to catcher Salvador Perez and fell to the field in pain.
According to the New York Times’ James Wagner, Venezuela manager Omar Vizquel – the Tigers’ first base coach – said Rodriguez pulled his groin and the injury could potentially be just a cramp.
