Every fifth day or so, John Smoltz had to take the mound as a starting pitcher.
That meant he couldn't play golf, though.
That silly Hall of Fame baseball career behind him now, Smoltz clearly has been spending some time at the links, and last week qualified for the U.S. Senior Open later this month.
The 51-year-old Smoltz shot a 3-under-par 69 at Planterra Ridge Golf Course in Georgia and won a three-way playoff to get the final qualifying spot from that site. The U.S. Senior Open is June 27-July 1 in Colorado Springs.
What an incredible day of golf at Planterra Ridge GC!
