Victor Martinez was hospitalized overnight for observation after leaving Thursday’s win over the Rays complaining of dizziness and other symptoms, manager Brad Ausmus told MLB Network Radio.
Ausmus told reporters after Thursday’s 5–3 win Martinez was not replaced by pinch-runner Dixon Machado in the seventh inning to boost the team’s speed on the bases. Martinez left the game because he was experiencing cold sweats, dizziness and an accelerated heartbeat.
A team doctor checked on Martinez, and there isn’t a “high level of concern,” Ausmus said at the time. He was supposed to be re-evaluated on Friday, but the situation was apparently more serious than initially thought.
