DETROIT -- The Houston Astros hit three home runs off starter Jordan Zimmermann to beat the Detroit Tigers 5-4 on Tuesday night at Comerica Park.
The Astros (91-54), who entered the night with a three-game lead on the Oakland Athletics in the American League West, will go for a three-game sweep of the Tigers 59-86) on Wednesday afternoon.
Jose Altuve, Tony Kemp and Tyler White homered for the Astros.
Zimmermann managed to last five innings despite some fumbles from his defense. Shortstop Niko Goodrum made a throwing error in the fourth on a play in which inexperienced first baseman Ronny Rodriguez gave him little help.
