The Tigers took a modest two game winning streak into Oakland to face the red hot Oakland A’s, who had just overtaken the Seattle Mariners for the final wild card spot in the American league. The A’s have a 9- 4 record since the All Star break. The Tigers sent Blaine Hardy to the mound to face off against left hander Brett Anderson. Oakland had won the last nine meetings between the two clubs.
Hardy pitched seven innings of one hit, shutout ball while Anderson took a perfect game into the sixth frame.
