As you may have heard, 10 years ago today, Detroit Tigers pitcher Armando Galarraga retired the first 26 Cleveland batters he faced at Comerica Park before No. 27, Jason Donald, reached base on a blown call by first-base umpire Jim Joyce.
We’ve covered it a bit this week here at freep.com. Anthony Fenech caught up with the key figures, plus a few others involved in that game and its aftermath; you can read it here. (It’s long, but we think you’ll enjoy it.)
Our man Fenech also took a shot at explaining why baseball is unlikely to count it as an official “perfect game,” as much as it would be fitting and pleasing to both Galarraga and Joyce.
