Anthony Gose receiving rave reviews after pitching debut for Lakeland

HOUSTON – Brad Ausmus confirmed on Tuesday afternoon what was reported on Monday night: Anthony Gose throws hard.

The Tigers’ centerfielder-turned-reliever made his professional pitching debut for Class A Lakeland on Monday night, throwing one inning. The left-hander allowed one run, one hit and one walk with one strikeout.

Ausmus said the report he received had Gose sitting in the 96- to 99-m.p.h. range with his fastball. More specifically, Gose threw three pitches at 99, two at 98 and “pretty much sat at 97,” according to Ausmus.

Gose threw a couple of curveballs and one change0up, Ausmus said.
