DETROIT -- Between the Detroit Tigers and Pittsburgh Pirates, 13 relievers worked on Opening Day.
None of them chose to ride in on the new bullpen carts stationed in both bullpens.
A survey of the clubhouse prior to Friday's game suggested that the team's seven relievers were unanimously skeptical of the idea. They preferred running, especially when the temperature is under 40 degrees.
As it turns out, their cohorts in the Pirates bullpen shared the same sentiment.
The Tigers also expressed concern about the placement of the cart in the crowded bullpen. Perhaps in response to those complaints, the carts are now parked behind the pitchers' mounds.
