♦ Manager Ron Gardenhire’s lineup card on Wednesday night against the Red Sox had right-hander Drew VerHagen penned into the bullpen.
The move, Gardenhire said, was more optics than anything. VerHagen threw 92 pitches on Monday afternoon in a loss to the Yankees.
“We just put him in the pen because I’m tired of seeing six starters,” Gardenhire said. “We want it to look like I got more guys down there.
