Alex Faedo gets save for Florida, then finds out Tigers drafted him

The wait apparently was worth it for the Detroit Tigers and right-handed pitcher Alex Faedo.

The Tigers selected Faedo with the 18th overall pick in the first round of Monday’s Major League Baseball draft. Faedo didn’t find out until after his two-inning save Monday night, which helped send No. 4-ranked Florida to the College World Series with a 3-0 win over Wake Forest.

“My family, they didn’t want me to know anything about the draft,” Faedo said during a media teleconference this morning. “They just wanted me to stay focused on the game because I told them I had a couple innings in me.
