DETROIT -- Hall-of-Fame shortstop Alan Trammell, who wore a Detroit Tigers uniform for all 20 of his Major League seasons, received the franchise's ultimate honor on Sunday afternoon.
Trammell's No. 3 jersey was formally retired in a pre-game ceremony attended by many of his former teammates, players he coached and tens of thousands of fans who cheered him on.
"I grew up on the West Coast, but I became a person and player right here in the Motor City, " he said. "The fans here recognized and appreciated heart, hustle and effort. That's how my parents raised me and that's how I was taught to play this great game of baseball.
