DETROIT -- On April 30, 2016, Jordan Zimmermann beat the Twins to improve to 5-0 with an 0.55 ERA, a brilliant start to his Detroit Tigers' career.
Over the next two years, everything fell apart. He went 13-20 with a 6.44 ERA over 252 innings. After an ugly outing earlier this year in Pittsburgh, the Tigers' patience seemed to be on the verge of exhaustion.
Then something happened.
On April 30, 2018, Jordan Zimmermann pitched seven scoreless innings. Then he threw five scoreless in his next start.
After a monthlong stint on the disabled list, Zimmermann has been even better, culminating in eight masterful innings against the Texas Rangers on Friday night at Comerica Park.
