LAKELAND, Fla. -- The last of the stragglers are expected to arrive in Tiger Town today, giving the Detroit Tigers 62 players in their Major League camp for Monday’s first official workout.
Over the next five weeks, new manager Ron Gardenhire will pare that number down to a 25-man roster.
In many years, as many as 23 or 24 of the roster spots are already decided. But the Tigers have much more uncertainty this year, particularly in the bullpen, where only one spot is truly locked up.
A late free-agent signing (like Chris Tillman) could also shake up races that appear to be settled.
