The MLB draft is notoriously unpredictable. That the Detroit Tigers were projected to (and ultimately did) draft Casey Mize for months during last year’s draft cycle was a surprise, but not unheard of for a team with the No. 1 overall pick. Now that they don’t have a selection until the fifth pick in the 2019 draft, we expected there to be a lot more uncertainty on who the Tigers would target.
Instead, we might be looking at the same story all over again. Several mock drafts, including FanGraphs’ first one of the spring, have projected that the Tigers will take outfielder Riley Greene with their first round pick this spring.
