Jack Morris was a star pitcher who grew up in the Twin Cities and had just signed a then-sizeable contract worth at least $3 million.
Morris was 36. Gardenhire was just 33.

"He's a grumpy guy, we all know that," said Gardenhire with a smile, even if he really wasn't joking. "The day before he pitched, the day he pitched, you just cleared out and let him do his thing.
