Former Detroit Tigers reliever Justin Wilson, who pitched only once for the Chicago Cubs in the first round of the playoffs, was removed from the team's National League Championship Series roster.
The Cubs play Game 1 against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday night.
Wilson struggled after being dealt to Chicago on July 31. He had a 5.09 ERA in 23 appearances, walking 19 in 17 2/3 innings.
The Tigers sent Wilson and catcher Alex Avila to the Cubs, getting two prospects -- third baseman Jeimer Candelario and shortstop Issac Paredes -- in return.
Avila, playing behind Wilson Contreras, hasn't played at all in the playoffs but remains on the postseason roster.
