DETROIT -- The New York Yankees appeared on the verge of a quick exit from the MLB playoffs Tuesday night after ace Luis Severino was battered in the first inning.
The Minnesota Twins jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first and had two runners in scoring position when Yankees manager Joe Girardi decided to make a change.
Enter Chad Green. The former Detroit Tigers farmhand struck out the next two batters to end the inning.
In the bottom of the first, the Yankees answered with three runs to tie the game, eventually beating the Twins 8-4 to advanced to the American League Division Series against the Cleveland Indians.
