The Detroit Tigers have the 18th overall pick in the Major League Baseball draft, which kicks off with the first two rounds at 7 p.m. Monday. Will they select a pitcher with each of their first five picks, like they did last year? Or will they emphasize position players?
It’s hard to say. In fact, general manager Al Avila isn’t saying much.
“Well, I can’t tell you if we’re going to go for position players or pitchers,” he told reporters June 2. “What I can tell you is when it’s our turn to pick at 18 we will pick what we think is the best player on the board at that time.
