The Padres are receiving a lot of interest in starter Luke Gregorson, whom the Tigers tried to trade for back in the spring (it was reported that Detroit offered Rick Porcello in exchange for Gregerson). The Padres are already basically a year into the process of blowing the team up, and are apparently looking for some young starting pitching.
Gregorson has been stellar this year with a 2.98 ERA and 37-9 strikeout-walk ratio in 46 appearances out of the bullpen, and is still under arbitration control next year.
With the exception of closer Joaquin Benoit and setup man Drew Smyly, the Tigers bullpen has been pretty much terrible this year. Benoit and Smyly have ERAs below 2.00. Luke Putkonen has a 3.05. Their other four relievers have ERAs above 5.00. Gregorson would be a welcome addition as someone who can get out of jams in the middle-innings.
