In today's Tigers rumors and news update, the Detroit Tigers have expressed interested in Arizona Diamondbacks reliever Brad Ziegler, according to Jon Morosi of FOX Sports 1.
However, per Justin Millar of the MLB Daily Dish, it appears that Arizona is "inclined to keep" Ziegler rather than deal him despite their awful 43-56 record and 11.5 game hole in the NL West."
The Detroit Tigers are keeping all of their options open on the trade market as they look for potential upgrades to their sometimes-suspect bullpen. With closer Joe Nathan struggling at the back end of the 'pen, the Tigers have also expressed interest in Philadelphia Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon and San Diego Padres late-inning specialist Joaquin Benoit.
Diamondbacks president Derrick Hall recently stated that Ziegler would be "impossible to replace," and with an extremely team-friendly contract extension recently signed in December, could be a very big part of the team's plans going forward.
The Tigers will likely keep him at the top of their wishlist, however, due to Ziegler's 2.50 ERA AND 151 ERA+ this season.
