Now, the astute among you have realized that the video below is not from a baseball game. The even more astute among you have now remembered who J.R. Smith is and the fact that J.R. Smith does some hilariously dumb things on the basketball court. I won't say this is one of them, just because it's absolutely hilarious.
You shouldn't just laugh at J.R. ruining an 11 year old's day, that's to be expected. I saw a Nuggets game where he walked into the 11th row and ate an entire personal pizza right in front of an 8 year old and his father who had just purchased said pizza. George Karl had to call a timeout to pay the disgruntled fan $6 of hush money. You should also be laughing at is J.R.'s teammates' excited, jovial, generally undisgusted reaction to the block. If this video would have continued another minute, you would have seen J.R. and friends accosting a Girl Scout troop's newly acquired cookie money (they also took a box of Samoas and didn't pay).
A different, more revealing angle that show's an extra 5 seconds worth of clip. That 5 seconds shows a more traditional J.R. Smith move, namely getting lost on defense and allowing the other team to score easy buckets. I'm not even sure he knew he was still playing basketball after that block. It's vaguely reminiscent of a pro wrestling match where a wrestler pulls off a devastating move only to celebrate for way too long and get caught in a small package and getting pinned, television championship belt vanishing right before his eyes. You got pinned J.R.
This video is almost reminiscent of one of my favorite movie scenes ever. Bill Murray, on a cell phone, in the movie Rushmore, blocking the ever-loving shit out of a child while walking through a basketball game.
