I consider myself a pretty big Tigers fan. Hell, I even write a Tigers blog. But there is one thing I didn't know about my Tigers until last week. Max Scherzer, 4-0 Max Scherzer to you, has heterochromia. Don't worry it's not terminal, and it doesn't mean that he likes same sex robots. It does mean that he has husky-like different colored eyes. He joins a long list of important people with this pigment issue including Dan Ackroyd, the lovely Kate Bosworth and Mila Kunis. Ackryod and Kunis are good but if I could share in affliction with one person it would be Michael Flatley, or "The Lord of the Dance," to the layman. I do actually share one dangerous condition with Flatley which all the local dance clubs call "Hot Feet." (I'm kind of hoping that heterochromia induces sequin vest purchasing and Max starts coming to the mound with a Flatleyesque jacket ala Charlie Sheen in Major League).
Jokes aside, Tiger Nation is certainly hoping that Scherzer can carry the momentum of his 4-0 start forward. Few would argue that he has the arm to be the strong #2 starter the Tigers will need if they're to contend in the Central. While his start is a step in the right direction, Max has about 5 months of consistent baseball to play before he can count himself among the league's best. The ERA leaders in the AL read like a who's who of under 30 pitching talent. Only one of the top 20 pitchers on that list, Jeremy Guthrie, is over the age of 32. There is a bevy of young pitching talent in the league right now and at age 26, Scherzer has a chance to be as good as any of them.
