Detroit Tigers manager Brad Ausmus' decision to lift ace David Price in the seventh inning on Sunday in favor of Joba Chamberlain came back to bite him, as Angels second baseman Johnny Giavotella squirted a weak ground ball through the middle off of Chamberlain for the deciding two-run single in the Halos' 4-2 victory.
After the game, the talk was about Ausmus' decision. In the skipper's eyes, Price looked done after 121 pitches through 6 2/3 innings.
"For me, that last guy he faced, I think he was about done," Ausmus said. "I think he could have kept going – he probably would have told me he could keep going – but I thought he was done."
Price doesn't agree, but he wasn't looking to call Ausmus out for the decision either.
"I felt fine," the lefty said of how he felt when Ausmus pulled him. "I work hard so that's not an issue, that's not a problem. I felt good.
"That's baseball."
