With the recent Dodgers signing of Zach Greinke, the Detroit Tigers might no longer be able to afford the services of Anibal Sanchez.
Greinke's six-year $147 million deal with the Dodgers has officially set the ceiling for what free-agent starting pitchers are worth.
Unless Sanchez is willing to play for the Tigers this season at a much discounted rate, there is little to no chance that he returns in 2013. The Tigers just simply are not willing to shell out that kind of money for Sanchez.

Sanchez is widely considered the second pest starting pitcher free-agent this offseason, yet nobody anticipates that he will receive a deal as large as Reinke's.
Currently, Sanchez is asking for roughly a $90 million contract, and funny enough the only team that seems to be interested in him at this price is the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers have been on a massive spending spree since Magic Johnson and Co. took over the franchise, and may just be willing to spend an obscene amount of money on another pitcher.
