Detroit Tigers News: Detroit Avoids Arbitration With LHP David Price With Record One-Year Deal

The Detroit Tigers avoided arbitration with left-handed ace David Price on Friday, signing him to a one-year, $19.75 million contract.

Per ESPN.com, "Price's contract is the largest one-year deal for a player who filed for arbitration, topping Max Scherzer's $15,525,000 agreement with the Tigers last year."

In addition to their deal with Price, the Tigers announced one-year deals with right-hander Alfredo Simon and outfielder J.D. Martinez. Right-handed reliever Al Alburquerque is Detroit's only arbitration-eligible player left unsigned.

Detroit acquired David Price in a trade deadline swap with the Tampa Bay Rays last season, and he played a pivotal role in helping the team capture its fourth-straight AL Central title.

He is positioned to sit atop another big-name starting rotation in Motown this season, with Justin Verlander, Anibal Sanchez, and possibly Max Scherzer if the Tigers can somehow finagle a hometown discount with the free agent.
