The Baltimore Orioles landed one on the Detroit Tigers' chin during the 8th inning of Game 1, plating eight to turn a 4-3 nail-biter into a 12-3 blowout.
The Orioles threw another 8th-inning haymaker in Game 2, with a crowd-igniting Delmon Young double proving the difference in a thrilling 7-6 Baltimore win.
Turning Point: Delmon Young. Delmon Young. And, a little bit more Delmon Young. With Detroit Tigers' 8th-inning man Joakim Soria's breaking ball (and entire arsenal) lacking snap once again in Game 2, Young took advantage by drilling a three-run double to deep left to morph a two-run deficit into a one-run lead.
Tigers MVP: J.D. Martinez's three-run homer in the top of the fourth gave Detroit a 4-2 lead. Detroit wouldn't trail again until Young's heroics in the eighth, as Martinez once again showed what a change in scenery from Houston to the Motor City has meant to his career.
Orioles MVP: Delmon Young remains one of the most polarizing and underappreciated veterans in the game. That's especially true in the playoffs, with Young's nine career postseason home runs and six straight postseason appearances (with four different clubs). Young once again proved clutch, giving the Orioles a stunning win that might end up all but sealing this series for the Camden Yards crazies.
What's Next? The Tigers look to stave off elimination in Game 3 on Sunday in Motown with first pitch scheduled for 3:30pm EST. Detroit will have David Price on the mound (15-12, 3.26 ERA), as the gem of the Tigers' 2014 trade deadline dealings squares off against the O's Miguel Gonzalez (10-9, 3.23)
