The Detroit Tigers limped through a disappointing 2017 season that ultimately resulted in them trading away a number of key players as they start their rebuilding process. While they don't plan to go crazy with their spending this offseason, the Tigers are looking to add some pieces they hope can help them moving forward. Here are three players they are targeting:
1) Carlos Gomez, OF, Texas Rangers
Gomez has resurrected his career in Texas after failing to live up to expectations in Houston, though he's far from the top-flight player he once was. For a Detroit team that needs outfield help, they could be willing to take a flyer on him with the hope that he returns to his previous form - as long as they can get him for cheap.
2) Francisco Liriano, SP/RP, Houston Astros
Liriano made the transition from the starting rotation to the bullpen after being traded to the Astros midseason, and while they haven't used him much in the postseason, Liriano is still a veteran who has shown he can still produce. The Tigers would like to add starting pitching help and bullpen help, so someone with the versatility to do both like Liriano is appealing to Detroit.

3) Matt Garza, SP, Milwaukee Brewers
With Detroit looking for a bargain, they could find one here. Garza isn't expected to have much of a market this offseason, but the 34-year-old very much wants to keep playing. If they wait to make their moves later in free agency, the Tigers could sign him to a cheap, short-term deal, giving them a veteran arm at the back end of their rotation.
