You can’t win them all every single month of every single baseball season, and these next three guys are living proof of that. Amid swirling trade rumors heading towards the July 31st deadline, here’s our list of 3 Detroit Tigers Players Who Have Been A Disappointment So Far In 2015.
3B Nick Castellanos
Castellanos was mired in a three-month season-opening slump before beginning to turn it on in July once he realized that "it's just hitting." His recently simplified approach may remove him from this list as the season goes on, but his sophomore season has still been inconsistent at best and disheartening at worst as he's hitting just .242 with a projected strikeout rate of just under one per game.
RHP Justin Verlander
This is more attributed to his inavailability due to injury, but his four starts since his return haven't provided much room for optimism. Verlander has already given up six earned runs or more in two starts and appears to be struggling with both his control and velocity issues. He may very well put it together soon, but Tigers fans' eyebrows will remain firmly raised until he does.
RHP Anibal Sanchez
His brilliant near-no hitter notwithstanding, Sanchez has been all over the place in 2015 as he's given up four earned runs or more in six of 18 starts and three earned runs or more in 9 of those appearances. He's been getting great run support as of late, but his 4.63 ERA remains a point of contention for a Tigers team trying to keep its head above the playoff waters.
