It is finally here hockey fans! The 2016 World Cup of Hockey will get underway today from the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario. After 10 days or so of exhibition play, the real tournament is ready to roll.
Team USA and Team Europe will be well represented by several Red Wings players in this year’s World Cup. In today’s matchup four Red Wings players will suit up for action. Frans Nielsen, Tomas Tatar and Thomas Vanek will be on the European team, while Detroit Red Wings Justin Abdelkader is the lone Detroiter on Team USA.
While these guys all get along and play for the same NHL team, it must seem a bit odd going after each other in the World Cup.
