Filip Zadina waited longer than many, including himself, expected to hear his name called during Friday's first round of the NHL draft.
Perhaps he won't need to wait too long to crack the lineup of a rebuilding team that needs an offensive boost.
The Detroit Red Wings, who have had difficulty scoring the past three seasons, selected Zadina, a dynamic right wing from Halifax (QMJHL) with the sixth overall selection at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.
Analysts have described Zadina (6-0, 197) as a highly competitive goal-scorer with an exceptional and deceptive release as well as a good playmaker.
