Dallas — The power play is historically bad, why not try something — anything different in order to improve it.
The Red Wings are doing just so, the newest wrinkle at Wednesday’s practice being Danny DeKeyser working the point on a unit along with Gustav Nyquist, Henrik Zetterberg, Thomas Vanek and Frans Nielsen.
DeKeyser played a lot on the power play two seasons ago when the unit was ranked near the top of the league.
Wednesday it was ranked 30th of 30 teams, at a success rate of 11.1 percent.
With defensemen Brendan Smith (groin) and Niklas Kronwall (knee) both unavailable for the next two weeks coach Jeff Blashill needs a someone at that spot, and DeKeyser offers strengths.
