Detroit -- The Detroit Red Wings will be without defenseman Brendan Smith for approximately a month.
Smith injured his right knee during Saturday’s 2-1 overtime loss to Montreal.
General manager Ken Holland said Smith will be out about four weeks, while the timeframe for forward Tyler Bertuzzi – who injured his lower leg in the same game – has not yet been determined.
Smith was injured on a knee-on-knee collision with Phillip Danault. Smith’s right knee bent inward and he clutched his knee after falling to the ice.
Bertuzzi was hurt on a shoulder hit from Montreal defenseman Alexei Emelin.
