Wings’ Ryan Sproul out for season with knee injury

Toronto — This hasn’t been a memorable season for defenseman Ryan Sproul, as a whole, and it looks like it’ll be ending that same way.

Sproul suffered a left knee injury during Saturday’s game in Edmonton and will miss the remainder of the season, general manager Ken Holland said.

There is an ACL injury involved, and surgery could be possible when doctors re-evaluate in about two weeks once the swelling subsides. If surgery isn’t needed, Sproul could strengthen the knee through rehabilitation.

Regardless, this season is over for Sproul.

“I don’t foresee him coming back (this season),” said coach Jeff Blashill, what with only a month left in the regular-season schedule.
