Detroit — Amid the hoopla over the Red Wings' last weekend of play in Joe Louis Arena, rookie Matt Lorito’s play might have been the most encouragement they could find in Saturday's 3-2, overtime loss to the Montreal Canadiens.
Lorito had a fine offensive season in Grand Rapids and he assisted on Dylan Larkin’s goal to give the Red Wings a 2-1 lead at 12:51 of the second period.
“It was fun, an exciting game, back and forth,” Lorito, 26, said of his first NHL game. “It was just unfortunate we didn’t come out with the win.
