The Detroit Red Wings are preparing to cut ties with one of their least-used forwards.
Joakim Andersson was placed on waivers today, although he remains on the roster for tonight's game at Buffalo because the Wings need his services. Brad Richards was excused for the game to attend his grandfather's funeral, but is expected back for Saturday's game at Joe Louis Arena against the Anaheim Ducks.
If Andersson is not claimed by another team by noon Saturday, he can be sent to the minors. General manager Ken Holland told the Free Press the decision was made for salary cap reasons.
