Tampa, Fla. – After a huge come-from-behind win Saturday, a day off in the Florida sun and a practice day, the Red Wings were not ready for the Lightning Tuesday, losing 6-2.
Offering no defensive support to either Jimmy Howard or Petr Mrazek for long stretches of the game, they yielded three goals before fighting back with two in the second. But then they followed each other to the penalty box, with three consecutive penalties in the last 3:19 of the period to allow the Lightning a 5-on-3 goal.
BOX SCORE: Lightning 6, Red Wings 2
Enormously fortunate for the Wings was that the Flyers had a 2-0 lead in Columbus with a man advantage with 1:09 left in the game, and the Blue Jackets managed to tie it and win in the shootout.
