The Detroit Red Wings' four-game losing streak is over.
Thomas Vanek set up the Red Wings only goal in regulation and then scored the winner in a shootout as the Red Wings beat the Buffalo Sabres 2-1 Wednesday night at First Niagara Center.
Vanek gave Gustav Nyquist a pretty pass to open the scoring with four minutes left in the second period before Buffalo tied it 1:42 into the third on a goal by Brian Gionta.
Nyquist also scored in the shootout before Vanek ended it with his "around-the-world" move.
Jimmy Howard made 32 saves in regulation and overtime before stopping two of Buffalo's three shooters in the shootout.
