GRAND RAPIDS - Matej Machovsky, who thought he was going to watch his first game with the Grand Rapids Griffins, instead made his debut with the team.
The 24-year-old Machovsky, in his first year as a pro after four stellar seasons in Czechoslovakia, was called upon five minutes in the second period of Wednesday game against the Chicago Wolves after the Griffins and Tom McCollum allowed three goals.
Machovsky endured the rest of the period - the Wolves outshot the Griffins 10-0 at that point in the period - and stopped 14 of 15 in a 5-2 Griffins loss.
