Today, Todd Nelson was announced as the newest assistant coach for the Dallas Stars.
When reports surfaced that Detroit had given Nelson permission to interview for other coaching positions, it seemed likely that his time in Grand Rapids was drawing to a close, so it was not a big surprise when word came out yesterday that this was imminent.
Nelson led the Griffins to the Calder Cup two seasons ago, and the team went to the playoffs in all three seasons he was its head coach.
Personally, I’m sad to see him leave the organization and wish him the best of luck in the future, except of course against Detroit.
