Steve Yzerman was introduced as Detroit Red Wings general manager on Friday, during a news conference at Little Caesars Arena.
He becomes the 11th general manager in Red Wings history, replacing Ken Holland, who led the Red Wings to three Stanley Cups during his tenure as GM from 1997-2019.
Yzerman, who turns 54 on May 9, played for the Wings from 1983-2006. He played a key role in reshaping the Wings into a contender, earning the moniker “the Captain.
